Christian Study - Baptism,
is there only one?
|
Is
there only One Baptism ?
Baptism
is mentioned in several ways in the Bible. There is the baptism of
repentance, the baptism of fire, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the
baptism of Moses, baptism for the dead, baptism of suffering, water
baptism, etc. Ephesians 4:4-6 says there is one baptism. Since the Bible
is without error or contradiction, we must conclude that the one baptism
is the baptism commanded by the Lord and the apostles and the one in
effect today. This one baptism (water immersion in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins) is plainly shown in examples throughout
the New Testament where believers were converted.
Mark
16:16
|
He
who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not
believe will be condemned.
|
Acts
2:38
|
Then
Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
|
Acts
22:16
|
And
now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your
sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
|
1
Peter 3:21
|
Corresponding
to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the
flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ, (NAS)
|
Acts
10:47,48
|
"Can
anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized
who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" And he
commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they
asked him to stay a few days.
|
Romans
6:3,4
|
Or
do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with
Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should
walk in newness of life.
|
Galatians
3:27
|
For
as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
|
Ephesians
4:4-6
|
There
is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of
your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father
of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
