Role of Women
Jesus is the
greatest equal opportunity employer in the history of the world.
(Galatians
3:26-28) “For you are all
sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. {27} For as many of you as
were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. {28} There is neither Jew
nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor
female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus”.
We are all
equally loved by heaven and were equally died for on the cross of Calvary. The question has never been God’s
love, but ours. (John 3:16) "For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life”.
However, this
does not mean that we all have the same role in our service to the
Lord. God has affixed a special
responsibility of leadership on men both at home and in the church.
(Ephesians 5:22-25) “Wives,
submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. {23} For the husband is head
of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior
of the body. {24} Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so
let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. {25} Husbands, love
your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for
her”.
This leadership
is not to be selfishly ego driven, in fact, the opposite is true. Husbands are to love their wives as
Christ loved the church. What did
He do for the church? He died a
horrible death on the cross. It is
this kind of loving sacrificial leadership that God demands Someone has to be accountable for the
direction of the family. God has chosen men for this difficult task.
God also intends
for men to take the public leadership roles within the church. (1 Timothy
2:11-13) “Let a woman learn
in silence with all submission. {12} And I do not permit a woman to teach
or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. {13} For Adam was
formed first, then Eve”. This does not mean that women do not play
a vital, and equally valuable role in the within the church, simply that
women help and support the work of the church under the direction of men.
(Genesis 2:18) “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good for
the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for
him’”.
Our society
generally considers the concept of male leadership repressive and old
fashioned. However, it is to be respected as the will of God. Trends and ideas come and go, but the
word of God is eternal.
