January 6, 2019

2019

The beginning of a new year provides a great opportunity for each of us to examine our lives, our goals, our hopes, our dreams, and most of all, our relationship with God.

Questions are helpful when examining where we are and what we need to do. For example, in 2018:

Where did you succeed?

Where did you fail?

What regrets do you have?

What lessons did you learn?

Taking a Spiritual Inventory

How is your prayer life? “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2).

How are your Bible study habits? Let’s follow the example or Ezra: “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel” (Ezra 7:10).

How is your involvement in the congregation? “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

How is your family doing spiritually? “In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself…However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband” (Ephesians 5:28, 33).

What do you need to do more of in your life for God?

What do you need to stop doing that is hindering your relationship with God?

“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken” (Psalm 16:8).

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me” (Psalm 103:2, NLT).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).

We are blessed beyond our realization. Let us renew ourselves and set our mind to be more Christ-like in 2019!
